My passive income goals (inpired by Steve Pavlina&Pat Flynn)

I am a long time reader of Steve Pavlina’s blog and I decided to jump on his  Passive Income challenge. This series started just at the right time for me, as I had just received a majorly unpleasant surprise form my current employer. I am a CG artist and I love doing artistic work…it’s just that (as I’ve found out recently) I hate doing it as job! 🙂 I also don’t like the fact that someone else is in control of my financial situation .

Even though I am stuck in a dream-job-turned-nightmare, working long hours and not being compensated fairly, I think I am in a great position to start working on a passive income stream. The main thing I got going on for me is motivation! I just cannot waste my life like that anymore.

I think this time around I also have the right mindset.  I say this time around because I actually made an attempt to create passive income online a couple of years ago. I was hoping it would work out quickly and easily and sure enough I gave up after a short while. Since then I’ve learned that even some of the passive income  gurus did not make any money for the first six months or so! If you’re not in for the long run you dramatically reduce your chances of success – that’s probably the best piece of advice I can give anyone right now. Be there for the long run and be willing to learn!

So what inspired me initially was Steve’s articles, although lately I’ve been learning a lot from Pat Flyn from smartpassiveincome.com.  If you look around there are a ton of free, high quality passive income resources out there. Smart passive income is one of them and in a future post I’ll share some more that I found particularly interesting.

The purpose of this blog.

Here I’ll write about my experience and challenges with creating passive income, online business etc. For the time being I will not try to monetize it in any way, so I don’t see it as a potential passive income generator.

I also created a forum and it is my hope that I can get at least a few other folks to join in, so we can discuss our individual approaches to passive income, and – what’s especially important – encourage the heck out of each other and make sure we all reach our goal. This would be great, as I’ve learned from my previous endeavors how easy it is  to quit when you lack social support. After I post this I am going to prepare some content for the forum (no one wants to join an empty forum). Once that’s done I’m going to start inviting people – I’ve actually found a few others who blog about their Steve-inspired passive income goals on google.

My passive income goal

I almost forgot ;)I am now successfully creating a new stream of passive income by December 30, 2012, that generates at least $100 per month on average and endures for a minimum of 5 years, and I’m doing this in a way that delivers strong value for many others around the world.

I think a 100 bucks is a nice goal. It seems achievable to me and it’s an amount that most programs out there (adsense, affiliate programs etc.) will actually pay out.
